Monitor lizard photographed at Lok Kawi Wildlife Park.
We call this “biawak”. They are not as huge as the Commodore dragons, but this one is quite large, about 6 feet from head to tail end. It was moving about in its pen. Photographed from about 8 feet away. I was behind a low concrete wall.

A monitor lizard at Lok Kawi Wildlife Park.
This looks close and it was maybe 10 ft from me. But I was behind a low concrete wall. This lizard is carnivorous and feeds on small birds, rodents and eggs. Photographed at Lok Kawi Wildlife Park, about 20km from Kota Kinabalu city.
