Phalaenopsis amabilis is commonly called “The Lovely Phalaenopsis” or “The Moon Orchid”. It is widespread in eastern and south eastern Asia, from Australia to Indonesia. It is also one of Indonesia’s national flowers.

The amabilis is the largest in the genus with flowers 10 cm (4 inches) across, and likes hot to warm conditions. It is found in rainforests at elevations of up to 600 metres (1,968 feet). The inflorescence grows up to 90 cm (3 feet) long and bears 3 to 5 showy, fragrant and long lasting flowers.
